Been a minute since i updated my blog, so hmm where should i begin.
A few months back DJ DOPESHOES AND I PUT OUT A MIXTAPE CALLED LESSONS LEARNED IT IS MOSTLY ORGINAL TRACKS WITH A FEW EXCEPTIONS. DOUBLE DISK 1ST DISC IS THE MIX 2ND DISC IS THE TRACK. AVAILABLE AT ACCESSHIPHOP.COM

BEEN IN THE STUDIO WORKING ON SOME NEW SHIT AND FINISHING UP PROJECTS THAT HAVE BEEN SITTING ON THE SHELF FOR WAY TO LONG.

Some time this summer i will be releasing a project called "THE DEATH OF STRESS" not sure how many tracks will be on it yet. It is a very melodic project , really thought provoking. Some of the song titles are "self destruction" , and "elevation" so i plan to cover the spectrum with this.

Also working on bringing Soapbox Sessions back which was a podcast that DJ Thumbprint and myself started working on a year or two back.

After years of recording numerous tracks for diff. projects of which most never got finished. I decided to combine all these diff feels and emotions into one mix, and with the help of Dj Dopeshoes it came together very nicely. This is a double cd featuring cats like Jahsun Olufemi Lasana, Parker Edison, Philasifer, Touch of C.A.S, F.O.S,Acethetic and more. Even those this is labled a "mixtape" all of the songs except 2 are orginal cuts produced by cats like Dj Cleancutt,NickNayme,Evolve One, Philasifer,Acethetic,Dj Taze, and others.

Disc 1) is a mix done by DJ DOPESHOES , 29 songs deep
Disc 2) is all of the orginal tracks from the mix but in full, so if you really liked a track and wanna hear the whole song you get the option

1. INTRO/ACEOP -feat. my good friend Acethetic
We did this track almost 4 years ago, we were taking a protools class together,and got the idea to work on a project something that we had talked about in the past , but just never had the time or space to do it. I had just moved into my new apt that was literally 5 min from Mesa College, so after school we would go back to the pad and figure out what we were going to do, since is name is Ace and mine is Op we just combined the to and figured we would play with the word ACEOP (AESOP). Well this was the only song that came out of that project, we ventured into a group project called F.O.F (friend of a friend) and so goes the story

2. 54TH (feat. Live) -This track was supposed to be a part of a project called the 54th which was basically from the movie "GLORY". 54TH was kind of a spin off from the whole F.O.F thing that unfortunatly did not go so well. 54TH featured myself, SBLIVE(MIL), Acethetic,Still Philosophy(UK),Evolve One and Jahsun Olufemi Lasana. The title track was simple called 54th and was supposed to feature 3 of us, but due to schedules and other life things it never happen , so SB Live and myself (Opoetik) finished the track. The beat was done by this cat named APHOISM who i later started working on a project called "BLIND MAN'S BLUFF" that is still in the works.

3. King of Kings (feat. Live / Jahsun)- This was another song that was supposed to be on the 54th collaboration project. Evolve One produced the beat. Basically a look at how we in this world have to live and present ourselves as Kings in this world in order to be succesful and to also realized that our ancestors are looking down over us to carry their legacies in a strong manner and not just go thru life not being great. 4. If you can't stand the heat (feat. FOS)

What it is-HAHA i don't do a lot of what i like to call "GET EM TRKS" but i was feeling backed into a corner during this time of my life and i felt i needed to let some steam off and let people know i maybe a cool laid back poetic type of dude ,but i can come with it when i need to.6. I Should Fly

7. Lost One (feat. Live)-LOST ONE-Evolve One was working on a concept albulm kind of like Prince Paul's "A Prince Among Theives" , and it was basically about an emcee trying to fight the industry status quo, but coming to a crossroads where he was had to make a decision wether to sell out or stay true to his heart.
This project i believe was supposed to feature like 6 diff emcees, but some "cats" did not come thru, others just flaked, and so this was one of the only songs started featuring me (Opoetik) and SB Live.

8. Untitled (feat. Parker Edison) -This track really had to concept what so ever ,just some reflective shit, i started the song just because i really liked the beat, but i could only come up with a 3rd verse and really wanted someone else to take it somewhere else,so one day Parker Edison was at the pad, and i played it for him, he liked how i ended my 2nd verse and began writing, and in my opinion he did it justice and i thank him for that ...

9. That Swing- produced by Philasifer , The beat has a nice lil swing to it, and i just started writing and never really re read the rhyme until i recorded..and so That Swing was born.

10. Texas T -I met this kid from the UK (STILL PHILOSPHY) he sent me a few beats , we did a project called "PERFECT STRANGERS" ,but after he sent me a few more beats and this was one of them. During the time a lot of deep information was coming out about this war that we are in and little details about what are ex president was doing , and i took time to reflect on that and what this was really about , along with the death toll of soilders dieing was growing at a rapid rate.

11. That Morning-Many people are upset and many people are overwhelmed with joy by our new president, I was one who was overwhelmed with joy, but maybe not the way others were and maybe not the way most thought i was. But to me seeing Obama get elected was more about a sense of change(not to sound cliche) but i would have felt the same way about Hillary , maybe not as deep ,but the feeling would have been pretty mutual , The tradition of our country is "RICH WHITE MALE" IN CHARGE and for the first time i could look up and there was a reflection of me. But please believe if dude fuks up i will be the first person to say something, anyway enough with the preaching, I HOPE YOU enjoy the song, make sure you listening to both verses before passing judgment its key.

12. It Ain't Over (feat F.O.F)- Real reflective song, this song was written in one day and had no direction. Myself, my brother Jahsun, and Philasifer were sitting around the pad doing the knowledge and shit started happening in the room (no joke)
It was a real spirtual moment , and i pushed play on my cpu and this beat played,we all began writing..it was a beautiful thing...REFLECTING ON OUR PATHS THRU LIFE.

13. Letting it all out-man one long ass verse, of OP VENTING ..life was a maze at that time and nothing made sense.14. Dead or Alive

15. Here I Am (feat. Kandi Cole) This track was supposed to go on my "WHEN SILENCE SPEAKS EP" But did not match the flow of the EP , but i always said i had to use it for something. I was blessed to have the Queen herself (Kandi Cole) assist me along with production from Evole One. Basically a track to let the world know "im right here" you want to talk, you want to build, you want to whatever. HERE I AM LIVE AND DIRECT COME GET A BAR.

Poetik Headache-This track was also included on my first mixtape "Poetry For The People" but i like it so much i wanted to make sure people get a chance to hear it if they did not the first time around. During this time i was still with my daughters mom and we were living in La Mesa. We were having probably more downs then ups at this time , and i was frustred with working a 9-5 doing the same shit everyday and not getting to see my newborn child like i wanted to because once i got home it was dayum near time to go to bed. Bigup to Warren Wilson for creating the beat.

22. A Confession-This song is one big metaphorically apology and explanation of all my actions during a certain time in my life. This was dedicated to my daughter,my daughters mom,my mother, my friends,anyone who knew me during that time especially this was my way of secretly saying i fucked up, so listen close and you might hear exactly where im at on this track. DAYUM!

23. The Process -The Process towards my child being born...what a game changer, what a beautiful thing, what an amazing thing..

24. Love It When- I CALL THIS my corny track..just cause that was a joke with me and Evolve about how the beat even thou he made it was a little cheezy, but i said fuck it lets change up the format haha

Night Sky- Had not recorded in awhile , was not motivated, and my due DJ Ian Head, hit me up to be on one of his numerious lil projects he puts out all over the net. everydaybeats.net(check it out) anyway, so he sends me this track and it has this upbeat kinda cosmic vibe to it, and it took me there.
26. Visions (feat. Live / Parker Edison)-<em>I lost a friend when i was about 11 or 12 he drowned on Easter, That night before he died i had a dream about a mishap and he was in it...Rumor is that he told his teacher the day before that he was not coming back , and all of that had my mind bugging, The morning i found out he had passed, i was actually supposed to be at the beach with him and all the other people who went, but for some reason i ended up not going. The night he died i had another dream and he came to me and said that it would all be ok, and to relax..Josh was younger then me by 2 years i believe, and i think about him all the time. So when i got this beat from Evolve One i immediatly knew what to do. Within my one verse i was able to say all i needed to say, which left me with 2 verses and nothing to put on them. So i gave the concept to Live and Parker, and both of them went in and brought the song to a higher level...

27. New Day Coming -I needed a new prespective so i renamed myself NEWDAY,and this was the first song that came from that ressurection of self.

RAKIM/RHYMFEST

Last night i had a choice...i was blessed to have tickets to both the Rakim/Rhymefest show and the Gift of Gab show.....

Rakim being the "GOD" and with the venue being way closer i chose Rakim/and Rhymefest. I don't know how the Gift of Gab show , but im sure it was really dope, but i am seriously glad i chose the Rakim show...to watch a Legend bring that real classic shit to the masses was amazing, and Rhymefest was off the meat rack.
There was even a freestyle session feat Orko,Sojourn,and King D, that was ridiculous.
Cros 1 held down the tables all night and played nothing but HITS...

Big up to DJ Happee and Rakim's manager for hooking it up...i truely had a fun inspired night..

To perform again or not to perform again? that is the question.
There was a time a couple years ago where i wanted to be no where but on stage interacting with a crowd while expression my heart and soul thru music,BUT...it seems that over time that desire has been diminished and wilted, and in many ways that is discouraging. I originally got into the art of creating music as a fun thing to do , something to just channel postive energy thru with no desire to be the best or to expierence any sorta fame from it, and i think the minute that reality set in that this could be something that could be serious and possibly profitable i think it kinda scared me and i ran the other way. Along with many other issues that i ended up expierencing in life. The pressures of life i guess you can say, and no this is not a sobb story because many go thru things in life and make them them through it , im just speaking my story.

Now i am faced with the question are you gonna perform again, are you still gonna put out tracks , and honestly sometimes i wanna say whats the point, but in the same breath im writing ...so where does one go from here.
That is the journey that i am on...

Lessons Learned -mixed by DJ Dopeshoes

Finally after years of stacking song after song a project is born. After and during my last project (Perfect Strangers) i had recorded lots of songs some solo , and some with comrads. Many of these tracks were geared toward specific projects such as AceOps Fables which was Acetheic and myself, then there was a project called Sound Masons with Philasifer, there was the F.O.F compilation that never really got going, and one or two more.

I decided about a year ago after a lot of dramatic occurences that these songs were like lesson in my life's book, and that each possesed a story or a key that opened up my next insight. I was blessed to work with some really inspirational people.

I gathered up all of these tracks went thru each with a open ear. Some i even recorded extra verses and or hooks to add to the thought already started. After it was all said in done i reflected a lot on my first project ever "Poetry for the People" and how that had the same vibe, but it was an introduction more then anything. I got to thinking "dayum why not do another mix" , but just with a diff perspective, so i contacted DJ Thumbprint who did the mix for "Poetry for the People", and and i after a few conversations thought it would be dope to have a completely different dj do the mix this time in order to give my music a diff light, so the first person that came to mind was DJ Dopeshoes (one of SD's dopest dj's handsdown). I called her up and asked about it , then we talked about it one more time , and it was on. Which leaves me with your right here.

THE NBA

The NBA has been lacking a certain excitement for many years, probably since M.J his airness leftl. I mean yeah we had Shaq and the growth of Kobe, Vince Carter and his arial assaults and of course Allen Iverson and his ankle breaking crossovers, but nothing really popped....Within the last 5 years with the full growth of Kobe Bryant, the emergence of Lebron James aka the best basketball player on the planet , Dwayne "Flash" Wade, Dwight Howard, the new look Celtics, the new look Lakers, guys like Kevin Durant, Brandon Roy, Chris Bosh, Chris Paul and on and on and on it seems that we have gotten back to a more competitive situation, and this has showed in the playoffs, BUT ! even thou the league has amped up its star status the officiating is getting weak. In this playoffs alone i have witnessed closed to 6 or more ejections and they were not even for things that warranted that. It seems unlike the Jordan rule era that the NBA as far as what is allowed and not in the foul dept has become a little sympatheic and sensitive.
We all are quick to blame the refs, but we all have to remember they also answer to someone.
But this ticky tack shit has to stop...

I am still a little bothered by the fact that the DALLAS MAVERICKS and a few NBA analysist have decided that the only lost game 3 to DENVER because they were not given their intentional foul. If that is the only way you can think to win a game then you deserve to lose. After game 4 i hear people saying "DALLAS SHOULD BE EVEN WITH DENVER IF NOT FOR THE REF" HAHAHAH...that shit is a cope out..

I also have a problem with some LAKER fans who have decided that anytime they lose its because of the refs or they just took the night off as if the other team did not just play a great game. Also i was forced to hear all off season about how if the LAKERS got BYNUM back they would sweep thru the NBA well fine you got him SO DO IT. Unfortuantly Phil Jackson has a stick up his ass and refuses to play Bynum like he should. Game three when the LAKERS got smoked by the seriously undermanned ROCKETS , Bynum barely played, so the next game he is in the starting lineup , and when they ask Phil Jackson why the change he decides to make up some bullshit.. He tells the reporter that Bynum had a great practice, so he felt he was ready to play...ummmm PHIL you had one fuking day off how good of a practice could he have had, yall most likely did like all teams do with one day off , just went thru the motions, so he couldn't have improved all that much. Why don't you just be honest and say " with Lamar Odom hurt it was my only option" . Anyway enuff with the venting
Looking forward to DENVER hopefuly puttin an end to this tonight

oh shit i almost forgot
Van gundy (MAGIC COACH) is going to get fired if they dont make it out of this round.
Dwight Howard isnt happy and that means coach is gone. I think he should be fired , how are you going to let your team go series upon series upon series and not send the ball thru the biggest man on the court.

Disneyland / California Adventures

DISNEYLAND /CALIFORNIA ADVENTURES

So last weekend we went to California Adv./DisneyLand
and had a great time.

Friday - Drove up , plan was to go early, but due to weather and other things that did not happen,but we made it just the same , and the weather held up.
Right off the bat my daughter runs into Goofy , she dayum near lost her mind, then while waiting to take a picture with him Mickey Mouse and Woody from Toy Story were dancing and singing , so she lost her mind again. hahahah ......shit was hilarious as well as fun.
RIDES WE GOT ON : Monsters Inc, and Bugs Life
and saw a few other cool things. Muppets 3d was alright , i was expecting much more , but whatever. Bugs Life 4d show was a lil scary , probably shouldnt have took my daughter in that one , but she did okay ..Definatly thought she was gonna lose it when the spiders came down from the ceiling. lol . The Parade was dope, all the pixar characters marching around from NEMO TO BUZZ LIGHTYEAR....now that im describing this sounds crazy because im a grown ass man and this shit was hella exciting hahaha lmao oh well ...

Saturday we went to Disneyland Twice.
First half we did some rocketship ride, Finding Nemo's adventure, visited ToonTown which is where we spent most of our time due to it being where the chararcters were out signing autograph books and taking pictures, but i was cool.
2nd half we got on Small World, Dumbo, Teacups, Mr Toads adventure,Pinochhio, and some other stuff and saw the fireworks.

UNFORTUANTLY AS WE WERE LEAVING my camera back came up missing , camera , phone and car keys all gone...i was not driving so transportation was all good , but all my pictures were gone. luckliy "moms" came thru and had pictures on her camera , so mommy saved the day lol
but i still had to come out of pocket for my keys and my dayum phone errggg
but fuk it i had a good time and so did my family , especially my daughter so case closed

So it's back on and popping, The new mixtape Lessons Learned.
This project has been on and off for almost a year now for many many reasons.
At one point i was just done with it all together figured it was taking to long and that
due to the overall song content that it was outdated and i was over it, but as i started recording new music i realized that many of the songs i had scheduled to go on the Lessons Learned project were pretty good. I let a few friends, and associates as well as family members check out a few of the tracks , and they were mostly impressed and thought i was stupid not to put them out.

Already in the mid stages of another project i took a timeout. Regrouped and took a listen to the songs that i was on the verge of abandoning , and decided that i should rethink my decison to scrap the project and shed new light on it, so i went thru each song and did what i could as far as sound quality , and added a this and that here and there , and brought the project back to life, BUT STILL i had no DJ to mix it......

A few years back i was blessed to come in contact with a young dj , who was starting to get her feet wet in the SanDiego hip hop scene, and during that time i had just dove in. I invited her to do a albulm release party for me as well as dj a birthday bash. We always talked about the possibiltiy of her rocking a show with me , but it just never happen do to whatever reasons, but we remained good friends, and over time she has become one of the dopest dj's in San Diego.
DJ DOPESHOES not only a dope ass dj , a dope ass person. So i reached out to her to help me and Dj Thumbprint on our new internet radio show (SOAPBOX SESSIONS) ..During one of our shows it came to me why not ask her. Not completely sure that she would do it seeing that she was doing a lot of gigs i asked anyway , and she said yes. 2ND-We elected a African American President. AN HISTORIC MOMENT of mass porportions.
, okay so now that i have said that i have to say this. The moment is historic wether you voted for Obama or not, and that is not to be disputed. This country has demolished the idea of being anything other then white, and I am not saying this to say that white(caucasion) is bad. I am only being factual. We have had 43 presidents all have been white, and it was not just because they were qualified, so when i hear people say "you only voted for OBAMA because he was black" my response is " did you not vote for him because he was black." ...

Do i agree with every thing this man says he wants to do or has done so far.No not neccesarily , but do i believe that he has what it takes to really get our country moving yes! , and hopefully he will succeed, and if he doesn't and makes the same mistakes that our last president made then i willl be just as hard on him, but it will still never take away the historic event.

Our country for the most part was built on racisim , and has had its foot in the attitude of racism for a long long time, so this election does give hope to those of all diff. genders, creeds,colors and so on and so forth. If a women would have won , women would have been just as happy and joyous and it would have been looked at as a glorious thing. But Obama wins ,and im constantly hearing shit like...."he is not black, he is mixed", and wondering why black people are crying and smiling and singing across the world well its because we actually feel like we belong for once in this country. Yes slavery was "X"YEARS ago, but Jim Crow was less then 80 years ago , and the ideology of racism still lingers in the mist. SO YES I REJOICE AND SING IN THIS MOMEN

Aight so in one of my blogs i spoke on a project that i had in the works called "learned lessons". Well as of today that has been axed. It has taken way to long to get done, and has grown a lil bland in my opinon. I do plan on slowly putting out the songs as downloads and things like that, but as far as dedicating my time and effort into getting this out i just don't have it. I have already begun two new projects that i think reflect what and how im feeling at this current state in my life, and i hope that people will and can enjoy it.

Next ..looks like im heading home..home as in ..back with the parents...
im slightly happy about this because of the money saving oppurtunity, which will give me an oppurtunity to go back to Baltimore in march to visit my extended family, but i am also unhappy about this situation because i will have limited living space, no room for my music equipment, and i mean im 30 .. and i know plenty of 30 year olds live at home for whatever reason, but i have enjoyed my freedom , but it is what it is ..so we will see what happens.

Today is monday back to work from the holiday vacation. Which i rather enjoyed even thou i was ill for part of it. But the time i got to spend with my family was well needed.

MOVING ON its 09 and every year some new slogan comes out to help motivate people to seize the year as their own. The funny thing is only a few actually follow thru on the slogan...so this year no slogans, no gimicks, no resolutions...just progress.

So i was on youtube today , and watching some clips. Typcially i do not pay attention to the comments, but i decided to check it out , and see what people have to say about certain videos. I found myself dieing laughing at a lot of these people.
People who spend their own free time to make rude ignorance comments over and over again knowing that if the person they were talking shit to was standing in their face that they would be as quiet as a fuking mouse. I saw everything from racist lil punks calling black people everything from monkeys to niggers. I read a few comments where you have people calling out cat's calling them punks and bitches knowing that, that person will never come face to face with them. One guy even had the nerve to say. " Thats why i like coming on here , so that i can leave comments to oversensitive people without them every being able to do anything about it."
Now if that is not a bitch ass comment i dont know what is. I mean fine you want to talk shit then leave your name , stop hiding behind screen names. Anyway im sure this is a ongoing conversation among millions , so i will let it leave my system now.

Opoetik-(Optik & Poetik)

-For a short period of time i went by the name Optik. Optik bascially being the mispelled version of Optic-(adjective 1.of or pertaining to the eye or sight.) I was told many times that
my lyrics painted a picture and gave people a visual into my mind. Overtime i met a bboy that went by Optic and then i met an emcee who went by Cypher Optic and seeing that I was new to the whole emcee game i decided to change it. I took the name Optik and combined it with Poetik.
And now before you i stand as Opoetik.
